Born in 1946 Barry, the adoptive son of a circus performer followed his fathers advice to select a profession chosen by few. Before opening the studio Barry spent his early years working on the travelling fairground. Barry studied signwriting at evening classes and soon became a very successful self-employed signwriter. With the onset of the computer age Barry embarked on a sudden career change and again, taking his fathers advice found the inspiration for his next career move in the local telephone directory: tattooing.
Barry trained under established artist Terry Dino and shortly afterwards opened The House of Living Art in Earlsfield, South London. He tattooed a host of celebrities including Mickey Rourke, Drew Barrymore, and our own Jonathan Ross and Paul Young.
Barry also lent his skills to the music industry responsible for the make-up on the 1982 classic Stranglers single 'Skin Deep' below.
Barry built up bis reputation during the 1970's and 1980's and was often called upon to work in the film and TV industry including the make up on Dirk Benedict (Face of the A Team) in 'Hammer Horror classic Mark of The Devil.' See below
Sadly Barry died in December 2000 from lung cancer but the studio remains a living monument to his work.
